Rev. Rebecca Jess

Rev. Rebecca Jess

Vice President

Rebecca serves as a minister at Armour Heights Presbyterian Church in North York. Having graduated from Knox College at the University of Toronto in 2018, and ordained
to the Presbyterian Church in Canada soon after, Rebecca is fairly new to
congregational ministry, but not new to life and work in the Presbyterian Church. Before entering seminary, Rebecca was one of the Co-Executive Directors of the Cairn Family of Camps in Baysville, ON—a set of summer camps owned and operated within the church. Working with children, youth, and young adults is a passion of hers, and continues to be one of main areas of her focus in ministry.

Rebecca stays connected to the life and work of Cairn Camps as a member of its Alumni Committee and as a summer chaplain. She is also a founding member of Re:animate: a group within the PCC whose vision is to nurture courageous leadership,
inclusive communities, and creative ministry within the church.

Having volunteered many times over the years to make and serve meals at EHM, Rebecca has seen firsthand the impact that a hot meal, meaningful conversation, and spiritual nourishment can make in the lives of those who reside at and use the services of EHM. Rebecca is grateful to be part of the team of people who serve within the EHM
community.

BARBARA HEPBURN

director

Barbara and her husband John have been supporters and interested in the work of EHM for many years. Both were very involved in the dental clinic when it was first established. For some time Barbara has been concerned about the lack of affordable rent to income housing in Toronto believing that everyone should have access to a safe living space, so she is particularly excited about The Hall’s future plans to establish more affordable housing for those in need in Toronto.

Barbara is a lifelong Presbyterian. She has been very involved at Glenview Presbyterian Church, her home congregation since she was a child, sitting on many committees, serving as an elder and then Clerk of Session for 7 years. Barbara was also the Convener Glenview’s Refugee Committee which raised money to give support to a Syrian Refugee family.

Before her retirement she was Director of Development at The Centre for Christian Studies for 4 years, Director of Development at Knox College for 12 years then did some consulting work with Crieff Hills for 3 years. She has had many years of Board experience having been President of the Branksome Hall Alumnae Association, a girl’s private school here in Toronto, as well as being on Branksome’s Board of Governors and a member of their Foundation.

She looks forward to contributing to the work of the Board in its mission of delivering programs that address homelessness and poverty in Toronto.
