Nurturing
self-esteem...
The Evangel Hall
Women’s Program is
aimed to serve
Toronto’s socially
isolated, homeless
and marginalized
women. The group
meets every Tuesday
afternoon at 12:30
PM for a hearty
lunch followed by a
social recreational
program. The lunch
program sits down
for an hour to eat
and chat, at the end
of every sitting,
the women share
their prayers for
the week as one of
our community
volunteers
incorporates all of
the prayers into one
large group prayer. |

The social recreation
program allows the women to
gather and socialize while
doing crafts, playing games,
sewing and weaving as well
as go out on special
outings. Guest speakers are
often welcomed to educate
our women on nutrition,
healthy eating, budgeting
and a variety of other
topics relating to the
everyday life. The community
volunteers have been a real
treasure when it comes to
the success of this program,
sharing their skills as well
as providing a helping hand
to Coordinator. They provide
a joy that all of our women
embrace.
The group consists of
fifteen to twenty women a
week. Some are dedicated
participants, while new
faces sometimes appear and
are welcome. Once a month,
program participants, along
with the female residents at
Portland place (supportive
housing complex) gather to
have Supper Club. The women
really enjoy this program
because it puts the planning
into their hands. The meal
is prepared by the women; it
encourages team work,
cooking skills, social
skills, as well as group
building.
The Evangel Hall Women’s
Program has had great
success in allowing women to
build confidence, gain
friends and to sometimes
forget about the struggles
they face in their lives.
