A Message from Our Executive Director
Strength Through Adversity

Frequently, people we admire the most have confronted great challenges and have persevered, in spite of great personal cost. This also holds true for organizations.

Helen Keller, widely admired for her struggle to overcome the loss of sight and hearing stated, “Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.” She realized the truth that life is difficult and when we accept this, we begin to find solutions to our problems. It is in the process of meeting and solving problems that our life has its meaning.

People coming to ehm know this intuitively. They come because they have problems, often severe and deeply rooted. They are not fleeing from their trouble but are unable to deal with them in isolation. At ehm they discover acceptance and love, find courage and wisdom to confront issues and grow mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Not everyone engages in this process equally. However, many take up this challenge and we rejoice in the growth of the human spirit.

ehm also has challenges to confront. Over the past two years, revenues have not equaled expenditures. In addition, the number of people we help has grown by 40%. We have dealt with this problem by cutting expenses, holding new fundraising events and seeking new donors. Despite these efforts, Evangel Hall Mission is facing a shortfall this year of approximately $100,000. It is critical that we make up this deficit.

Please consider making a financial contribution to ehm. Over 70% of all necessary revenues come from your donations. The balance comes from government grants, interest and special events. Thank you for your loyal support – it ensures that the work of Evangel Hall Mission will continue.

Summer BBQ
Fun in the Sun !

On July 7th, we had another successful summer BBQ with hundreds of people coming out to experience what ehm is all about: community. Thank you to our volunteers from PKF Hill for all of their hard work, as well as for their generous donation towards the event. Their support helped bring smiles to many people’s faces .

If you would like to learn more about how your company or organization can volunteer or support a BBQ or any other event, please contact Resource Development at 416-504-3563.

2010 Golf Tournament
Another success!

ehm had another successful golf tournament this June, raising over $136,000 to support our programs and services.

Over the past eight years this event is responsible for raising over $650,000. This is made possible by the generosity of Pheasant Run Golf Course owners, Gord and Laureen Evans, who every year donate the exclusive use of the golf course and the support of their staff.

Our sincerest thanks to all the golfers, sponsors, prize donors, volunteers, musicians, and our dedicated committee who helped make the day successful. There was beautiful weather, lots of camaraderie, a lively auction, gourmet food and fun. We could not have asked for more.

We are truly overwhelmed each year by the generosity of friends like you. Your support is appreciated by our participants, staff and board alike.

Volunteer Awards :
Congratulations everyone

Every June, the Ontario Volunteer Service Awards honour those who generously contribute their time as volunteers across Ontario. These awards are an important way to recognize volunteers who have provided service over many years and each year ehm nominates six of our hard working and committed volunteers.

This year our volunteer recognition included: Howard for maintaining ehm gardens, Ken for assisting in the clothing donation centre, Larry for fifteen years of service at community dinners, Mehari for providing music at ehm functions and Harry for youth program mentoring. The volunteers were treated to a lovely dinner at the Arcadian Court, Simpsons Tower at Bay & Queen and were presented with a certificate and pin designating the number of years of volunteer service. The Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, the Honourable Eric Hoskins, presented the awards.
